Completeness in Christ
In 1 Thessalonians 5:23 Paul wrote that “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ”. From this Scripture it is clear that God is not interested in a truncated human being, rather He wants our whole person. In essence, God wants us to take care of our spirit by reading The Word of God and applying it in our lives. To take care of our soul by by enjoying sensual pleasures in moderation and as prescribed by The Word of God. And finally, to take care of our bodies by eating healthy, exercising regularly and fulfilling our sexual urges under the institution of marriage as ordained by God. If we take care of just one aspect of our tripartite nature, we end up being a truncated human. From the Scriptures we learn that we shouldn’t be so spiritual that we are no fun to be around, we shouldn’t be so sensual that our sensuality overcomes our dedication to Christ and we shouldn’t be so carnally minded that we lose our connection to the Spirit. Rather, “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD”-Psalm 19:14.
